The International Maritime Fair, Fimar 2022, will be held from 20 to 22 May in the Plaza de Canarias.

The date has been set for the International Maritime Fair, Fimar, to drop anchor in the capital of Gran Canaria, faithful to its meeting with the business network that drives the island’s blue economy. Thus, from 20 to 22 May, the nautical and marine-maritime sector will meet again at the eleventh edition of Fimar, which hopes to recover the pre-pandemic business figures as well as the number of visitors.

The technical coordinator of Economic Development, Energy Sovereignty, Climate and Knowledge of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, and the Councillor for Mobility and City of the Sea of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, José Eduardo Ramírez, have held a working meeting this week to start the technical work for the next edition of Fimar.

“This fair is a clear demonstration of the commitment of both institutions to the blue economy, the marine-maritime sector, nautical sports and tourism, and in general to everything related to the sea”, said Raúl García Brink, who also announced that “this year, if the pandemic allows it, we will recover the location that Fimar has always had”. Thus, the International Sea Fair returns to its usual location in the Plaza de Canarias next to the sheet of water of the Muelle de Santa Catalina.

The councillor for Ciudad de Mar, José Eduardo Ramírez, pointed out that “Fimar is back and intends to return stronger than ever on the weekend of 20 to 22 May. This is a sector that needs the boost of the institutions, it is a strategic sector for the economy of the city, the island and the community and the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Port Authority of Las Palmas are going to be there to help in this boost”.

On the horizon for this 2022 edition is to attract a greater number of visitors, within the restrictions in force at the time of the fair but, above all, to recover the volume of business prior to the pandemic, as a symbol of the recovery of the sector.
