- Tomorrow, Friday, at 12:30 p.m., the Trío Con-Trastres will perform, and on Saturday, there will be two fashion shows featuring textile products and accessories made in Gran Canaria at 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
After seven days of intense activity, the Gran Canaria Primavera Sur Artisan Fair is heading into its last weekend under the Maspalomas Lighthouse, an unmissable event for lovers of unique pieces made by the 68 artisans from 16 municipalities of Gran Canaria present at this thirteenth edition.
In total, there is a showcase of 24 artisan trades out of the 87 that make up the Repertoire of Artisan Trades of the Canary Islands, such as pottery, basket weaving, knife making, ceramics, jewellery, blacksmithing, wool spinning, and shoemaking, among others.
In general, the participants of this event, which was promoted and funded by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, gave a “very positive” assessment of the first week of the exhibition. “The impressions so far have been quite good, with many people attending,” says Sofía Sánchez, who runs a stand of painted silk products. “This is my first time at the Gran Canaria Primavera Sur Artisan Fair, and it’s been a great experience because I feel that my product is well-liked,” she points out.
Pedro Conde, in charge of a wooden toy stand, shares similar impressions: “This event is already a tradition for me. There are quite a few tourists and many people who value craftsmanship. Furthermore, it’s a showcase that we artisans need since we have few points of sale where we can display our products,” he affirms.
For his part, Airam Ruíz, who showcases his leather goods at this fair, notes that “despite the strong weekend of the Maspalomas Carnival, there has been a lot of foot traffic. People who like crafts and don’t miss this visit.”
Indeed, Gran Canaria’s artisanry showcases its people’s art and cultural tradition and represents the identity and generational legacy of ancient trades. It offers a great diversity of unique or limited-edition products handcrafted by the privileged hands of creators who meticulously nurture each piece.
With all this, the Gran Canaria Primavera Sur Artisan Fair will remain open until this Sunday, March 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., also featuring an event program aimed at attracting more people to the fair and introducing them to the work of the masters of our island’s artisanry.
Tomorrow, Friday 22, at 12:30 p.m., there will be a musical performance by the Trío Con-Trastres; and on Saturday 23, fashion shows featuring textile products and accessories made in Gran Canaria, at 12:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The fair also has a live artisanry area, where the event participants will be the protagonists, showing how they make their products.
