Everything is ready for the return of the reference event for the products of our island, the “Gran Canaria Me Gusta” Fair, to Infecar next weekend, from Friday, April 19, to Sunday, April 21.
Promoted and financed by the Gran Canaria Island Council and organized by Infecar Gran Canaria Fair, in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts and the Department of Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security, the “Gran Canaria Me Gusta” Fair reaches its 11th edition this year, highlighting the traditions of the primary sector, local products, and industrial processing in the archipelago as a boost to the economy.

Thus, this annual event is the ideal setting to show the excellence of local products and the island’s gastronomy, facilitating direct product sales and a wide program of activities in one place. Experts will reveal the peculiarities of our products, their production and processing, enhancing their identity.

This event was presented this Wednesday, April 10, with the participation of the president of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Antonio Morales; the Councilor for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts, Minerva Alonso; and the Councilor for the Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security, Miguel Hidalgo.

With the presentation of this 11th edition of the “Gran Canaria Me Gusta” Fair, “we once again focus on the agri-food products of our island, trying to enhance the importance of local consumption for various reasons such as their characteristics because we know their origin, for the influence it has on the local economy and job creation, as well as the care it implies for our territory,” Morales said.
The president celebrated the fact that the fair has increased its participation to 81 companies and 19 town councils, compared to the 51 companies and 16 town councils that participated in 2023. “It is very important that the business sectors make efforts to ensure the output of the harvests and the firm commitment to local products.”

Morales also reminded that the “Gran Canaria Me Gusta” Fair will open its doors this Friday, April 19, with direct purchases from visitors and “as a meeting space for citizens, products, companies, and leisure and family enjoyment.”

Alonso, who reviewed various details of the program, advanced that in this year’s gastronomic exhibitions, “the Michelin-starred chef of El Bohío Restaurant and MasterChef judge, Pepe Rodríguez, will be present, who will delight those in attendance with a gastronomic demonstration in which the local product will be the protagonist.”

The Councilor for the Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Miguel Hidalgo, detailed the program of activities of the Primary Sector, which will again be present in hall seven under Infecar. “We have contemplated up to five classrooms with a capacity of up to 40 people in each session, offering sensory tastings, product tastings, demonstrations, etc., in which we intend to show the great work of the sector on our island.”

Thus, visitors will be able to enjoy hall seven high, an extensive exhibition space for the sale of local products; in hall seven low, the activities of the Primary Sector; in hall 6, more exhibition space and the representation of Asinca; in hall 5, more exhibition space, the gastronomic exhibitions, the Regional Cooking Contest in the Professional category and the award ceremony of the XVIII Official Honey Contest of Gran Canaria 2023; and in the Congress Palace, the children’s workshops.
