The company awarded the contract, LPA Studio, has signed the contract for 138,675 euros and a completion period of 46 weeks.
This project will be developed simultaneously with the construction of the new Infecar pavilion.
The new Infecar Special Development Plan is now closer. On 8 February last, the company LPA Studio S.L.P. was awarded the contract for the drafting of the planning project, urban design and carrying out the work necessary for its implementation, with a budget of 138,675 euros and a completion period of 46 weeks. The aim is to redesign the functional and spatial parameters of the venue to adapt it to the new demands of the trade fair and events sector.
In recent years, fairgrounds have gone from being mono-functional to multi-functional structures, opening up their possibilities to host all kinds of activities, beyond traditional fairs. In this sense, and as has been demonstrated during the health pandemic, the venues must have the capacity for transformation to house, for example, health care spaces, but also sporting and cultural events, concerts, competitive examinations or any other type of activity that requires a large number of visitors.
This Special Development Plan for Infecar will increase the competitiveness of the site, bringing its spaces into line with other exhibition spaces within the optimum standards for this type of infrastructure, which are around 6,500 and 8,000 metres, thus converting the site into a multifunctional space adapted to the current needs of the market.
It should also be noted that this Plan will be developed simultaneously with the construction of the new Infecar pavilion, which is currently in the review phase of the six bids received. Once this contract has been awarded, work will begin on the construction of a new main pavilion of approximately 8,500 square metres, which will be integrated into the site under the legal and urban planning cover of the Special Development Plan, in addition to the current offer of the Canary Islands Trade Fair Institution, consisting of trade fair pavilions, a conference centre with multi-purpose rooms, two parking areas and landscaped areas.
The drafting of the Plan is based on three blocks of action, which include the development of a Master Plan, the obtaining of an internationally recognised urban sustainability certification and the involvement of the surrounding area to generate a positive impact.
Thus, the Master Plan is the general design of the site, incorporating all the elements that today, and for the future, are framed in this space. This design will be developed in the form of a Special Plan to be incorporated, a posteriori, into a General Plan that will allow, as more infrastructures are carried out over time, for them to maintain the parameters established in the plan.
On the other hand, as a result of the agreement reached between Infecar and Breeam Spain, within the framework of the sustainability objectives of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria for the island, this Management Plan incorporates an action strategy with the aim of Infecar achieving Breeam Very Good sustainability certification this year and the following year.
Finally, with regard to the impact that Infecar has on its surroundings, in order to draw up this Management Plan, various working groups will be held with the entire ecosystem that forms part of the site, as well as with its areas of influence, such as the neighbourhood of La Feria, to enhance the positive impact of this redevelopment.
