- From 29 April to 1 May Infecar will transform its Pavilion 5 into a large kitchen where you can enjoy the gastronomic excellence of renowned national and local chefs.
- The highlighting of local produce is the premise on which these chefs base their preparations during the Fair.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Wednesday 20 April 2022-. The Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair is already finalising the details for its celebration next week, from Friday 29 April to Sunday 1 May. This ninth edition will once again bring together at Infecar renowned chefs from the national and local scene to highlight the value of the gastronomic sector of our country, with the raw material of our land as the protagonist.
This year’s edition of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will feature Ricard Camarena (Ricard Camarena, two Michelin Stars), Carlos Maldonado (Raíces, one Michelin Star) and Teresa Gutiérrez (Azafrán, Recommended Michelin Guide) as far as national chefs are concerned; and Borja Marrero, Richard Díaz, Jennise Ferrari, Carmelo Mújica, Rubén Parra, Lolo Román and Juan Manuel Calvo, as far as local chefs are concerned. In addition, this year the role of host chef will be given for the first time to Braulio Simancas (Tasca El Silbo Gomero).
Friday 29th April
With all this, the programme of gastronomic exhibitions of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will begin on Friday 29 April at 10.00 am with Lolo Román, chef collaborating with SPAR Gran Canaria, in charge of this culinary demonstration, which will be entitled ‘I like the Canary Islands’.
This will be followed at 11.00 a.m. by the final of the Regional Cooking Competition in the New Talents category, with the participation of Richard Díaz, chef of the Poemas by Hermanos Padrón restaurant.
The last session of the morning will begin at 13.00 hours with Juan Manuel Calvo, chef from Fagor Profesional, who will give a gastronomic demonstration entitled ‘Our local produce’.
The afternoon session will begin at 16.00 with Jennise Ferrari, from the restaurant Qué Leche!, who will present her new and innovative proposal ‘Learn to cook with Jenisse Ferrari’.
From 5 p.m. onwards, the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will see two renowned restaurants, La Trastienda de Chago (Gáldar) and Cuernocabra (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) going head to head in the kitchen. Both will demonstrate that traditional Canarian cuisine and new Canarian cuisine always go hand in hand, never at odds with each other.
Saturday 30th April
The Alcampo collaborating chef will be in charge of opening the second day of gastronomic exhibitions of the ninth edition of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair at 10.00 am.
Afterwards, from 11.00 a.m., the final of the Regional Artisan Pastry and Confectionery Competition Gran Canaria Me Gusta, which is being held for the first time at this edition, will be held.
The Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair has reserved for the afternoon of Saturday 30 April the part dedicated to the great gastronomic exhibitions that will be held in Hall 5 by the chefs from the mainland, who will be joined by Borja Marrero (MuXgo) from Gran Canaria, who will open the demonstrations with his innovative proposal for cutting up Canary Island sheep in the kitchen.
This will be followed by Carlos Maldonado with a talk entitled ‘The roots of a fighter’, mentioning his career since he won MasterChef until he achieved his first Michelin Star. Teresa Gutiérrez will delve into the importance of bread, cheese and desserts in haute cuisine.
Ricard Camarena will close the afternoon’s presentations with a talk entitled ‘The chef dedicated to the product’, in which he will explain and demonstrate how you can win two Michelin stars, be a favourite in the pools for the third and become one of the best restaurants in the world, respecting the producer and looking to the land above all else.
For this evening, the Feria Gran Canaria Me Gusta will be introducing the figure of the host chef, who on this occasion will be Braulio Simancas, who will accompany all these chefs on stage to comment on their impressions of the use of local produce in Canarian cuisine.
It is worth noting that all the chefs who have come from abroad will prepare their dishes using produce from the island of Gran Canaria. To help maintain the common thread throughout the day, there will be the presence of the Gran Canarian gastronomic journalist, Javier Suárez, head of Por Fogones in Canarias Ahora, who will also be in charge of asking the speakers questions from the audience at each of the demonstrations.
Sunday 1st May
The last day of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will begin at 10.00 am with Lolo Román, cooking for SPAR Gran Canaria.
From 11.00 a.m. onwards, the awarding of the ¡Qué bueno! Gran Canaria Me Gusta Award for Excellence in Commitment to Local Produce, promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, with the aim of highlighting those restaurants which, beyond their style of cuisine, use produce from the island of Gran Canaria as the main ingredient in their dishes.
Previously, a specialised jury has already chosen twelve restaurants on the island that meet these parameters, which are the following: La Trastienda de Chago (Gáldar), La Tunera (Telde), Casa Romántica (Agaete), Nelson (Agüimes), Casa Enrique (Mogán), Biocrepería Risco Caído (Artenara) and El Padrino, Muxgo, El Equilibrista33, Cuernocabra, Tabaiba and El Bento Japonés, (in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
All of them will be present after receiving their well-deserved recognition and the jury will announce the verdict of the restaurant that will have the honour of being the first on the island of Gran Canaria to receive the award for excellence in commitment to local produce, in a project that looks set to continue in the years to come.
The Regional Cooking Competition in the Professional category will take place from 12.00 hours. During the course of the final, the chef Braulio Simancas will perform a showcooking in front of the audience.
Finally, from 2 p.m. onwards, the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will be launching the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Popular Confectionery Competition.
