The Gran Canaria Craft Fair · Primavera Sur returns from 20 to 29 March to highlight the work of the island’s artisan professionals, and it will do so in a new location. For its 15th edition, the event will move to the rooftop of the Parking Faro de Maspalomas, where 65 artisans from 15 municipalities of Gran Canaria will gather to showcase 23 craft trades, three of them traditional.
The new venue, organised across several tents, will once again host this popular event, attracting both island residents and tourists who will be able to enjoy original, high- quality, handmade work. Pottery and basketry pieces; knife- making; ceramics, leatherwork, jewellery and fashion; as well as blacksmithing and wool spinning, among many other crafts, will share space in the south of the island, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the artisans’ techniques and the work produced in recent months.
Jewellery is the most represented craft at this year’s fair, with eight artisans, followed by ceramics with six professionals, and macramé, leatherwork and fashion, each with five artisans. Visitors will also find soaps, toys, baskets, patchwork quilts and handmade dolls, among many other products with a distinctive identity created across different parts of the island.
Once again, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the municipality with the highest representation at the fair, with 24 artisans, followed by Agüimes with eight and Telde with six. The event will also feature five artisans from San Bartolomé de Tirajana, four from Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and three from Ingenio. The municipalities of Valsequillo, Teror, Santa Brígida, Mogán, Firgas and Agaete will each contribute two artisans, while San Mateo, Gáldar and Arucas will be represented by one artisan each.
This showcase of the island’s craftsmanship, where tradition and innovation come together, will be open from 20 to 29 March, from 10: 00 to 19: 00. In addition to visiting the craft stalls, the event will feature a programme of live musical performances on weekends to accompany the experience. On Sunday 22 March at 12: 00, La Musicleta will open the programme, while DelBueno Marching Band, Asentaos y Tumbaos and Misi Live Music will perform the following weekend, from Friday to Sunday respectively, always at 17: 00.
