The location, the esplanade of the Santa Catalina cruise pier, is one of the main novelties that the International Sea Fair proposes in its return to the agenda of the city and the island.
Promoted and financed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, and organised by Infecar and the Department of Ciudad de Mar, FIMAR 2022 will be held in an ideal setting to present the latest developments and concerns of the nautical and maritime marine sector in the Canary Islands and its area of influence and, also to highlight the importance of surfing and wave sports as motors of economic activity in Gran Canaria, as well as to offer a wide range of leisure activities, as has been the case in previous editions.
FIMAR 2022, which will have free parking for attendees, will maintain its usual contents in this edition, which include, in addition to the participating companies and organisations, scientific dissemination, R+D+i in the marine-maritime sector and an extensive agenda of activities on land and in the water, which the general public will be able to enjoy with sea baptisms, sailing, etc.
The coastal municipalities of Gran Canaria
In 2022, the coastal municipalities of Gran Canaria will play an even more important role in the fair: for example, Gáldar and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, which host international competitions in disciplines such as bodyboarding and windsurfing, and which are joining FIMAR 2022.
All of this, in an event in which companies and players linked to the nautical, leisure and water sports and suppliers of this industry are protagonists. As well as firms specialising in nautical fashion.
The training, science and research sectors, as well as public institutions and business organisations whose activity is directly linked to the sea, also have a significant presence at FIMAR.
European Maritime Day
The International Maritime Fair has been included by the European Commission among the commemorative events of the European Maritime Day, to be held on 20 May. In this way, FIMAR 2022, which starts on that date and will continue throughout the 21st and 22nd of May at the cruise ship station of the Muelle Santa Catalina, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, joins the events that in different locations of the European Union are dedicated to projecting the importance of the sea and the blue economy for their states.
The event scheduled in the capital of Gran Canaria is part of the #EM- DinMyCountry plan: a list of events organised by the European Maritime Day (EMD) to disseminate the importance of the connection with the sea throughout the Union.
In 2022, more than 500 events in 28 countries reinforce this line of communication. Actions include beach clean-ups, guided tours of ports, museums, art or maritime-themed exhibitions, workshops and conferences, seminars, ocean literacy actions, eco-tours and walks in maritime heritage areas.
FIMAR 2022 returns at a decisive moment for the reactivation and development of the economic segment and employment focused on the sea. Hence the relevance of recovering the model prior to the pandemic of an event that has already established itself as a landmark event for the professional nautical and marine-maritime sector of the Canary Islands and the Island. And, by extension, as one of the most important professional meetings for all this economic activity in the Mid-Atlantic region.
