- The event, which in 2024 celebrates its 40th edition, will feature a wide range of handmade products crafted by nearly 130 artisans representing 55 trades.
The traditional Canary Islands Craft Fair returns for its 40th edition. From December 4th to 8th, locals and tourists alike will have the opportunity to explore handmade products created by 128 artisans from across the Canary Islands in an event that celebrates Canarian tradition while offering a dynamic program designed to attract visitors to the space. Additionally, for the first time, the Canary Islands Craft Fair will move from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to the Maspalomas Lighthouse, a stunning location on the island of Gran Canaria that is expected to draw even more visitors.
Minerva Alonso, the Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade, and Crafts of the Gran Canaria Council, and Felipe Afonso El Jaber, the Deputy Councillor for Industry, Trade, and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, presented this event to the media today. The Government of the Canary Islands promotes the fair through the Department of Economy, Industry, Trade, and the Self-Employed. It is organized for the first time by Infecar, the Gran Canaria Fair Institution.
“This regional fair is held biennially in Gran Canaria, and in 2024, we have the honor of hosting its 40th edition,” said Minerva Alonso. She also highlighted Infecar’s experience and the expertise of Fedac (the Foundation for Ethnography and Development of Canary Crafts) in organizing such events. “Throughout this year, Infecar has successfully organized the island-specific craft fairs, complementing Fedac’s efforts to promote traditional culture and preserve our identity.”
Regarding the new location for the Regional Craft Fair, Minerva Alonso expressed her gratitude to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council for hosting the event. “We’re heading to the south of Gran Canaria for space reasons, but this move allows us to reach both local visitors and tourists staying on the island during the peak season,” she explained.
Felipe Afonso El Jaber, the Deputy Councillor for Industry, Trade, and Consumption of the Government of the Canary Islands, emphasized that the fair aims to “bring the Canary Islands crafts closer to residents and visiting tourists, strengthen the commercialization of craft products, encourage their consumption, and promote the brand @rtesanía Canaria, a seal that guarantees the quality of each handcrafted item.”
The 40th Regional Craft Fair will take place from December 4th to 8th, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with free admission for all attendees. “We will showcase the work of 128 artisans representing 55 trades across the seven islands,” she added.
