Marine Energy Working Group ‘Enermar’ will be held in the framework of Fair Canagua & Energy in Infecar.

  • It will be held on 10 and 11 November at Infecar, coinciding with the 13th International Canagua and Energy Fair.
  • The aim of the Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers of Spain (AINE) is to promote and encourage naval and oceanic engineering in the field of marine renewable energies.
  • This is the third time that the organisation has chosen Gran Canaria to hold the event.

AINE’s Marine Renewable Energies Working Group will be holding the 12th Enermar 2022 Technical Conference on 10 and 11 November in Gran Canaria, as part of the 13th International Canagua & Energy Fair, promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the Island Energy Council, and organised by Infecar.

The marine renewable energy sector encompasses both offshore wind energy and energy generated by waves, currents, tides and, to a lesser extent, others that are still in their infancy, such as thermal or saline gradients. Along these lines, the main objectives of the Technical Conferences are to promote the role of naval and oceanic engineering in the field of marine renewable energies; to disseminate the functions and capacity of naval and oceanic engineers in institutions or companies related to renewable energies; and to promote marine renewable energies for the achievement of the Sustainable Energy Goals of the European Union.

The organisers hope to bring together a large group of visitors, related to all branches of engineering and industry in the field of marine sciences and technologies, with whom to interact and face the future challenges of the European Union. The aim of the meeting for the Marine Energy Working Group (Enermar) is to promote the contribution of marine and oceanic engineering to the achievement of the Sustainable Energy Goals of Spain and the European Union.

For his part, the technical coordinator of Economic Development, Energy Sovereignty, Climate and Knowledge of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, said that these meetings are “very important because they bring together a large group of professionals, entrepreneurs, students, not only from the naval field, but from all branches of engineering and industry related to marine energy, which brings new knowledge to the sector in Gran Canaria and attracts talent to our island”.

He also explained that “this energy field is booming and in the development phase, and there are already some examples at European level. We believe that before 2030 we will see the first floating offshore wind farms in the waters surrounding the island of Gran Canaria, because this type of installation will be key to achieving the climate neutrality that we have set ourselves. Therefore, “we believe that this Enermar conference will provide very significant added value”.

The extensive programme will include the possibility of visiting several Enermar devices that are being tested in Canary Islands waters through the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN). A unique opportunity that has been decisive for the selection of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as the venue for the meeting for the third time.
