- With just a month to go before the most flavoursome fair in Gran Canaria returns to Infecar, the final details of its programme of activities are already being finalised.
- The Product and Knowledge Classrooms, where visitors can taste and learn about the tastes and sensations of our land, will once again be two of the main attractions of this event.
From the land to the table. From our fields and sea, to the kitchens. From tradition and deep-rootedness, to excellence. The Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair is finalising the details of its ninth edition with exactly one month to go.
Promoted and financed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and organised by Infecar, this fair will once again be, between 29 April and 1 May, the benchmark event in Gran Canaria for both the primary and gastronomic sectors, highlighting the importance of the island’s local produce.
“The Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair is the most important space on the island of Gran Canaria for the promotion of local produce and gastronomy. Its aim is to disseminate the values of the land, the culture and the way of life that make it possible to produce food of enormous quality to make it an attraction in the tourist diversification of our island, with gastronomy also as a differential element”, emphasises the president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales.
Product Classroom and Knowledge Classroom
The Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will once again set up the Aula del Producto (Product Classroom) and the Aula del Conocimiento (Knowledge Classroom) as part of its efforts to promote local products and bring culture and knowledge of the primary sector closer to the public through sensory experiences. During the fair, participants will have the opportunity to discover aspects linked to the product, its production and preparation, highlighting its identity and emphasising its importance for the island.
Those interested in taking part in these sessions can register directly at the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair, until full capacity is reached. With a wide-ranging programme that includes tastings of yoghurt, potatoes, salt, cheese and cider, as well as workshops on honey, wool, beer, medicinal plants and sugar cane, among others, the aim is to raise awareness of the product and the rural world in order to value it as a vital area for development.
Gastronomic exhibitions
The gastronomic exhibitions are another of the attractions of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair. Once again, and throughout the weekend, the following will take place different showcookings, in which the local produce of Gran Canaria will be the protagonist.
The Fair will be attended by guest chefs Ricard Camarena, from the Ricard Camarena Restaurant, which has two Michelin Stars, one Michelin Green Star and three Repsol Suns; Teresa Gutiérrez, from Restaurante Azafrán, which has a Bib Gourmand distinction and one Repsol Sun; Juanjo López, from Restaurante La Tasquita de Enfrente, with two Repsol Suns and recommended by the Michelin Guide; and Braulio Simancas, from Restaurante Silbo Gomero, recommended by the Repsol Guide.
An excellent line-up of chefs from Gran Canaria completes the programme of gastronomic exhibitions planned for this edition, where the common thread will be respect for local produce as the protagonist.
The gastronomic exhibition kitchen will also be the setting for the finals of the different competitions held as part of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair, where the winners of the Regional Professional Cookery Competition, the Regional New Talents Cookery Competition, the Regional Artisan Pastry and Confectionery Competition, the Popular Confectionery Competition and the Regional Canary Islands Sommelier Competition will be announced.
¡Qué Bueno! Gran Canaria Me Gusta for excellence in the commitment to local produce.
To highlight the work of the restaurants of Gran Canaria that use local produce in their kitchens, promoting not only its virtues and activity, but also contributing to the revitalisation of the island’s economy. This is the purpose with which the Cabildo de Gran Canaria is promoting the first edition of the ¡Qué bueno! Gran Canaria Me Gusta Award for excellence in the commitment to local produce, which will be presented at the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair.
La Trastienda de Chago (Gáldar), La Tunera (Telde), Casa Romántica (Agaete), Nelson (Agüimes), Casa Enrique (Mogán), Biocrepería Risco Caído (Artenara) and El Padrino, Muxgo, El Equilibrista33, Cuernocabra, Tabaiba and El Bento Japonés, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, are the twelve finalists designated by the specialised jury to opt for this award.
Children’s workshops
The youngest members of the family will also continue to have their space during the celebration of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair. On this occasion, Pablo Nin Hernández, a participant in the 8th edition of Masterchef Junior, will be the guest junior chef to guide the children through the preparation of the recipes, made up of different products from Gran Canaria.
On this occasion, the apprentice children will have to be accompanied by an adult, and together they will make a cold cooking recipe with typical ingredients from different municipalities on the island. They will also enjoy a blind tasting, in this case of liquefied fruits, in which they will have to identify the flavours of each one of them.
