Handcrafted products from Gran Canaria return to San Telmo for the 30th edition of its Christmas fair.

  • The president of the Cabildo inaugurated the traditional exhibition, which will bring together 103 island artisans from 19 municipalities until January 5.

As it has every year since 1994, tradition, art, and creativity converge once again for Christmas at the Gran Canaria San Telmo Crafts Fair. The 30th edition opened its doors today with the presence of the island’s Cabildo president, Antonio Morales, who highlighted that “this fair has become part of the landscape of the island’s capital and Gran Canaria’s Christmas celebrations. It is one of the most important and anticipated fairs, generating significant income for our artisans. In recent years, it has seen a significant increase; two years ago, the return was around €223,000, and last year, it reached €360,000. This shows the growing economic impact of this Christmas fair.”

This popular fair, the most important on the island’s annual crafts calendar, will feature 103 participants representing 33 crafts, 12 traditional and 21 contemporary. Morales personally greeted each of the over a hundred professionals present at this edition, accompanied by the Councilor for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts, Minerva Alonso. The Cabildo president noted that “we begin this period when people rush to buy gifts for the Three Kings, creating an opportunity centered around our values, traditions, identity, and craftsmanship, both traditional and contemporary.”

From January 2 to 5, Plaza de San Telmo will host products ranging from ceramics, traditional cutlery, and jewelry to macramé and weaving, among other crafts, from 19 municipalities across the island. These products are guaranteed to be authentic and original by the FEDAC seal. Gran Canaria’s crafts, as a testament to the art and cultural tradition of the people, represent the identity and generational legacy of ancient trades, offering a wide variety of unique or limited-edition products, handcrafted by skilled creators who pay meticulous attention to detail.

The capital will be represented by 45 artisans, while nine come from Agüimes, eight from Telde, five from Valsequillo, and so on. The fair provides an opportunity for these artisans to showcase their work to a large audience in an open commercial area adjacent to the capital’s communication hub.

The San Telmo Crafts Fair was conceived as an economic and cultural initiative aimed at attracting visitors to the area and revitalizing the crafts sector. The FEDAC and Infecar, entities attached to the Cabildo of Gran Canaria’s Council for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce, and Crafts, work together to ensure the success of each edition. This edition also marks an opportunity for the FEDAC to showcase its newly renovated visual identity on a large scale.

Free and open to the public, the fair will be open from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on January 2, 3, and 4, extending its hours to 10:00 PM on January 5. The program includes musical performances by La Trova, Salomé Moreno, Sonder, and Non Trubada.

Promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria through the FEDAC, the Gran Canaria San Telmo Crafts Fair is organized by Infecar and supported by the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council. The program for the 30th edition can be consulted at www.feriasartesaniagrancanaria.es, the official website for crafts fairs held on the island, where you can also find information about other upcoming events in 2025, such as the Primavera Sur Crafts Fair in March and the Summer Faro de Maspalomas Crafts Fair in August.
