Fimar will be held next June at the Muelle Sanapú, in the Port of Las Palmas.

  • The International Sea Fair will celebrate its 13th edition on the 7th, 8th, and 9th. It will feature a program focused on marine technology, biodiversity, and the impact and potential of algae.

The 13th edition of the International Sea Fair, FIMAR 2024, will premiere a new location: the Sanapú Dock, situated within the port area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between the Poema del Mar Aquarium and the Onda Atlántica Walkway. This new instalment of FIMAR will take place on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of next June, with a program offering a wide variety of content centred on marine technology and biodiversity and the impact and potential of algae.

The International Sea Fair is driven by the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, in a fair organized by the City’s Sea City Council and Infecar, the Gran Canaria Fair.

Specifically, this Friday, June 26th, a session of the organizing committee was held, during which various sections regarding the development of FIMAR in this space were discussed. The organization of the fair, established as the central meeting of the marine and maritime sector in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the island of Gran Canaria, is currently working on the design and preparation of the program, in line with what was offered in previous editions and according to the current development of the sectors of activity linked to the sea.

The plan will include an extensive representation of public institutions and private firms focused on the blue economy, as well as the usual offer of exhibitions of different vessels in the water of the Port of Las Palmas, the presence of various sports clubs and the Canarian Latin Sailing, sea baptisms, or guided tours by land and sea within the port precinct. A special gastronomic offering completes a program capable of assembling thousands of people in each edition.

It is worth remembering that FIMAR keeps its registration period open for exhibitors on its official website. In just over a week, about thirty organizations and firms have registered.

In 2023, up to 56 public and private entities could showcase their content to the 18,000 attendees at the fair in a forum that energises the significant activity the blue economy maintains in the city and the island.

Research and Educational Content

One of the major attractions of the International Sea Fair is its wide range of educational offerings dedicated to research and science related to the sea. Exhibitions, talks, and educational sessions make up each year a comprehensive package of content aimed at the public, which in FIMAR 2024 will focus mainly on marine technology and biodiversity and the impact and potential of algae as a resource for the present and future.

This last field is one in which significant work is already being carried out by institutions such as the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC), or the Spanish Bank of Algae, managed by the Canary Foundation Scientific and Technological Park of the university itself.

Ultimately, the Sanapú environment is the chosen space for the proper celebration of activities linked to the sea next June, with a leading presence reserved for developing the blue economy, research, dissemination, and public entertainment.
