Fimar returns: the International Sea Fair opens the oegistration period for exhibitors.

  •  The major marine-maritime event in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria celebrates its 13th edition from June 7 to 9. The program is focused on marine technology, biodiversity, and the impact and potential of algae

Fimar is back. Under the motto “Marine culture and science at the service of biodiversity”, the International Sea Fair is already preparing its 13th edition, representing the major marine-maritime event in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the island of Gran Canaria. The organization has opened the registration period for exhibitors, offering a unique platform to showcase their products and services for the event, which will take place on the 7th, 8th and 9th of next June (on the official website).

As usual, this new edition of Fimar is a collaborative effort driven by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and the Port Authority of Las Palmas in a fair organized by the City’s Department of Maritime Affairs and Infecar, the Gran Canaria Trade Fair Institution. This collective effort underscores the shared commitment to marine culture and science.

In this edition, algae will be the main protagonists of Fimar, both in their impact and presence in the maritime environment around the Canary Islands, their potential to contribute to social and economic development in the Islands and their transformative capacity as an alternative natural resource.

This also responds to the research work already being carried out on the island by institutions such as the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Technological Institute of the Canaries (ITC), or the Spanish Algae Bank, which the Canarian Foundation for the Science and Technology Park of the university itself manages.

The International Sea Fair is not just a meeting point of the blue economy in Gran Canaria but also a hub of knowledge and learning. In 2024, it will celebrate its 13th edition after a journey in the city that has reinforced the work of various public and educational institutions, private companies and entities and, in general, relevant actors in the marine environment. It has also attracted the attention of a large audience that comes to its call to enjoy the exhibitions of different vessels on the water, sea baptisms and a complementary program focused on the dissemination of current knowledge of the ocean, providing a unique opportunity for enlightenment and engagement.

In 2023 alone, Fimar attracted the attention of 18,000 spectators. A park of 56 exhibitors was at the cruise ship dock in the capital of Gran Canaria, including different companies in the sector, various public administrations, rescue services, and the Navy, which was always present at the fair with guided tours of its Maritime Action Ships.

Another major attraction of the fair is the leading role assumed by different sports clubs whose main activity is linked to the sea and the Canarian Latin Sailing tradition. A differentiated gastronomic offer and an agenda that always incorporates new attractions will complete the content of the event’s next edition, details and location of which will be reported on future dates.
