Gran Canaria, January 4, 2025 – In San Telmo Square, at the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a universe of creativity, tradition, and talent comes alive. From January 2 to January 5, the Gran Canaria Craft Fair celebrates its 30th edition, bringing together 103 artisans from 19 municipalities across the island. The fair is a must-visit event for those who love unique products and an excellent opportunity to find exclusive and original gifts for Three Kings’ Day.
This year marks thirty years of the Craft Fair, which showcases Gran Canaria’s cultural and artistic heritage through the meticulous work of its artisans. Visitors can explore the various booths around the square, discovering ceramics, soaps, cutlery, jewellery, woodworking, textiles, and more. Each stall is a testament to the creativity and dedication of its creators.
Different crafts and processes—some traditional, others modern—but always artisanal, distinguished by the quality and individuality each artisan brings to the fair. Miguel Montesdeoca, a self-taught leatherworker who has been participating for over 15 years, loves sharing his passion for creating unique pieces with visitors. Miguel notes that transforming leather into handbags, wallets, and belts, “You realize you’ve created something no one else has, something different.” This fair is one of the most important for him, where loyal customers and new visitors alike appreciate his dedication.
Similarly, Arantxa Arenas believes this Craft Fair is “one of the best of the year because local visitors come looking for unique and exclusive items, which is what artisanal work offers.” In fashion, Arantxa introduces a distinctive creation: La Graciosa hat fabric transformed into textiles, a product she has been developing for four years. Since her first participation in 2018, she has enjoyed great success, particularly with local customers. “People notice the craftsmanship, understand the quality and value the effort behind each piece,” she says.
Beyond the quality, artisans agree that the fair’s location and timing are crucial for visibility and sales, especially for those without permanent retail spaces.
Pedro Conde, a lifelong carpenter and toymaker since 2011, has attended the fair since 2014. “The FEDAC fairs organized by the Cabildo are the best,” he says. Pedro has even stopped participating in other events to focus on these insular gatherings, showcasing his catalogue of handmade traditional toys. Like many others, Pedro sells out at these fairs, leaving him no time to produce for additional events. “Craftsmanship is tough, but we love our work,” he comments.
Jewelry artisan Yvonne Díaz celebrates her tenth year at the fair. From her workshop in Triana, she crafts “architectural and urban-style jewelry in silver—simple and minimalist,” which attracts loyal and new customers alike. Yvonne appreciates the fair’s timing, as “people wait for this event to find that special gift or last-minute detail for Three Kings’ Day,” she explains.
The fair will remain open until 10:00 PM on Sunday, January 5, providing ample time to explore the booths of 103 artisans from 19 municipalities and make last-minute purchases. The experience is enhanced with live music, including performances by Sonder today and Non Trubada on the eve of Three Kings’ Day, adding a festive touch to this must-visit event.
Admission is free, and the lively atmosphere promises to captivate those searching for unique, high-quality gifts, support artisanal work, and enjoy a magical holiday experience. Promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria through FEDAC, the Gran Canaria Craft Fair San Telmo is organized by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, with the collaboration of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
