Nearly 1,200 schoolchildren from 20 educational centers are learning to care for animals at Animundo Educa

  • ‘Friends with Paws and Heart’: one of the highlights of the 8th edition of the Pet Fair
  • Animundo will continue throughout the weekend with talks, adoption parades, and activities for professionals and animal lovers

Nearly 1,200 students from 3rd and 4th grade of Primary Education took part today in Animundo Educa, an awareness-raising day held within the framework of Animundo, the Pet Fair.

The space, titled ‘Friends with Paws and Heart’, is one of the main new features of this eighth edition of the fair. Its goal is to raise awareness among children from 20 primary schools across different municipalities of the island about the care and responsible ownership of companion animals.

In a fun and educational way, through engaging talks, the students learned the importance of caring for and respecting animals to become “guardians of responsible pet coexistence,” as explained by Javier Delgado, a veterinarian from the Official College of Veterinarians. “Animals are not toys; they are family. Having a pet should never be a whim,” he told the students, offering several guidelines to help them become good caregivers.

During the session, Syra Roiz, a veterinarian at the Gran Canaria Island Animal Shelter, showed the children how animals are cared for there. She was accompanied by India, a dog, and her owner, Belinda, who adopted her some time ago. “At the shelter, we care for about 200 dogs, all of whom we hope to find a loving home for,” explained Syra. She also reminded the children that “being a responsible pet owner means looking after their health and well-being, and giving them affection, time, and space.”

The event, hosted by Baby Solano together with Granky, also featured one of the most exciting moments for the children: a demonstration by Makata Dog, where trainer Giuliano performed with Murphy and Duna on stage.

Before returning to their schools, the children enjoyed another highlight of the day: the sports demonstrations, where dogs completed an obstacle course led by Kiwoko, along with an exhibition by the National Police Canine Unit, showing how their dogs are trained.

Throughout the weekend, Animundo will host various awareness-raising activities at Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, to promote respect for animals and welfare, consolidating its role as a meeting point for professionals and animal lovers.

Talks, workshops, demonstrations, and adoption parades encouraging responsible adoption and respectful coexistence will make this eighth edition of Animundo an unmissable event. Among the guests will be actor Fernando Tejero and Canarian actress and presenter Eloísa González.

As in previous editions, Animundo also includes an exhibition area where visitors can discover the range of products and services offered by 36 companies, associations, and organisations dedicated to animal care and protection.

Tickets are still available on the official website www.animundo.es at a general price of €1.50, with free admission for children under 12, unemployed people, pensioners, and people with disabilities. And, of course, dogs over three months old are also welcome, provided they meet the access requirements.

Animundo, the Pet Fair, is promoted and funded by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, organised by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria, and sponsored by Kiwoko Mundo Animal, Koala Mascotas, and El Corte Inglés.

The event also receives support from CajaSiete, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Island Animal Shelter, the Official College of Veterinarians of Las Palmas, Club Granky, Terapican+, and the Agility Lomo Salas Sports Club.
