SDGs and Sustainability
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations are the most ambitious action plan in favor of people, the planet and prosperity.
At Infecar we are contributing to making the planet a better place, committing ourselves to join efforts to achieve each of these goals, in which numbers 8, 9, 11 and 12 are directly linked.
As a social entity committed to sustainability, we are committed to working to turn these goals into tasks to reach 2030 with our homework done:
Goal 8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Inclusive and sustained economic growth can drive progress, create decent jobs for all, and improve living standards.
Goal 9 Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
Inclusive and sustainable industrialization, together with innovation and infrastructure, can unleash the dynamic and competitive economic forces that generate employment and income. These play a key role in introducing and promoting new technologies, facilitating international trade and enabling the efficient use of resources.
Goal 11: Making cities more inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
The world is becoming increasingly urbanized. Since 2007, more than half of the world’s population has been living in cities, and that number is expected to increase to 60% by 2030.
Cities and metropolitan areas are hubs of economic growth, contributing about 60% of the world’s GDP. However, they also account for about 70% of global carbon emissions and more than 60% of resource use.
Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Global consumption and production (the driving forces of the global economy) depend on the use of the natural environment and resources in ways that continue to have destructive effects on the planet.
The economic and social progress achieved over the last century has been accompanied by environmental degradation that is threatening the very systems on which our future development (and indeed, our survival) depends.
A sustainable and certified site
In addition to complying with the SDGs, at Infecar we work with a firm commitment to sustainability. We are currently immersed in the modification of the Special Management Plan that will allow us to reorganize our physical space and the uses of the site, and which, far from being just an urban modification, is an ambitious plan that promotes the sustainable transformation of the facilities and the regeneration of the surrounding urban space.
It is a perfect example of how we can combine economic development and investment in a sustainable way, while adapting our cities to mitigate and adapt to climate change and generating new spaces for citizens.
In addition, the new Pavilion 7, which will have a floor capacity of approximately 2,500 square meters to 8,500 square meters, will include a space for meetings and congresses to complement and expand the capacity of the current Gran Canaria Convention Center, as well as meeting and office space on the upper floors.
The project has been designed following the standards of the BREEAM sustainable construction certificate, the most demanding and advanced internationally. In this way, we became the first trade fair institution in Spain to reach an agreement of this type to work on this certification.
