La Feria Internacional Canagua y Energía concluye su 14ª edición y se consolida como cita referente en sostenibilidad

  • The International Canagua y Energía Fair Concludes its 14th Edition, Highlighting the Canary Islands’ Commitment to Innovation and Efficient Resource Management

The 14th edition of the International Canagua y Energía Fair has ended after three intensive days at Infecar, reaffirming its position as a key platform for debate, idea exchange, innovation, and opportunities in renewable energy and water management.

“This 14th edition of the International Canagua y Energía Fair can be considered a success. It has brought together a significant portion of the energy and water sectors, showcasing highly innovative systems,” stated Raúl García, Councilor for Environment, Climate, Energy, and Knowledge of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. He also expressed satisfaction with the event’s results, adding, “We are already working on the next edition.”

With 89 participating exhibitors and more than 1,500 visitors, the event provided a platform to present cutting-edge technological solutions for energy transition and water security. It also served as a venue for high-level debates, sponsored by Green Efficient, tackling decarbonization, geothermal energy, and water digitalization topics. In one of the roundtables, representatives from the Gran Canaria, La Gomera, and Tenerife councils discussed whether they are prepared to lead the energy revolution required for the islands.

Miguel Hidalgo, Councilor for the Primary Sector of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, emphasized the high quality of the professionals involved in the presentations and the increased presence of companies from the water and energy sectors compared to previous editions. He also highlighted the recognition of individuals and entities contributing to sustainability through the inaugural Canagua y Energía Awards, stating, “The positive feedback motivates us to work harder to maintain, if not surpass, the success of this edition in the future.”

The Canary Islands’ insular nature was acknowledged as an exportable model for small-scale solutions, reinforcing the fair’s importance as a space for exchanging knowledge and experiences among companies and professionals regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Water Takes Center Stage on the Final Day

The technical program on Friday morning was dedicated entirely to water, featuring two roundtables.

The first roundtable explored the relationship between water costs and tariffs in the Canary Islands, where jurisdiction is divided among municipal, insular, and regional administrations. Public and private sector representatives discussed the need to review regulations to balance costs, taxation, and pricing in the current context and to improve efficiency and sustainability in water management, which also impacts its valuation.

The second roundtable provided insights into solutions for addressing drought challenges, emphasizing the importance of portable technologies to respond to water needs during emergencies, natural disasters, or in areas without sanitation infrastructure. Portable solutions have been crucial in disasters like the eruption of the Tajogaite volcano in La Palma, offering transportable, flexible, and adaptable systems. These technologies are also valuable for small-scale or domestic use, covering all phases of the water cycle, especially recovery and reuse.

Networking and Business Opportunities

Attendees participated in B2B business meetings hosted in a space sponsored by Naturgy, which aimed to foster relationships and collaborations among exhibitors, professionals, and fair visitors.

Additionally, under the sponsorship of Bet Solar, more than 30 entities utilized the Speakers’ Corner to deliver brief 15–20 minute presentations showcasing their projects, products, or services.

Recognition of Excellence

A highlight of this edition was the inaugural Canagua y Energía Awards, honoring outstanding regional initiatives in sustainability and water management. Presented during Thursday’s Energy and Water Night, these awards celebrated the Canary Islands’ progress in promoting clean energy and sustainable water use.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future

Promoted and funded by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Island Energy Council, and the Island Water Council, and organized by Infecar, Canagua y Energía counted on Green Efficient as its platinum sponsor, Bet Solar and Naturgy as sponsors, Cajasiete as the official collaborator, and the support of Proexca and the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce.

The fair, which has just concluded its 14th edition, reaffirmed the Canary Islands’ commitment to a sustainable future. This edition marks a turning point towards a more diversified, green, and resilient economy, positioning the Canary Islands as an international benchmark in clean energy, energy sustainability, and water management.
