Movelec opens its doors with Gran Canaria leading the introduction of electric vehicles in the islands.

Tickets for this eighth edition can be obtained for free at www.movelec-canarias.com.

Gran Canaria is the driving force behind electric mobility in the Canary Islands. This was evident on Friday, October 18, during the inauguration of the eighth edition of Movelec, the Electric Vehicle Fair of the Canary Islands, which will showcase the latest trends and innovations in the sector until Sunday, October 20, at Infecar.

The president of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, Antonio Morales, along with other authorities, inaugurated the event. Morales emphasized that the Cabildo aims to establish connections with the sector to make electric mobility a key aspect of the island’s decarbonization efforts, noting that Gran Canaria leads in electric vehicle penetration and charging points.

He highlighted that decarbonization is essential for combating climate change and improving residents’ quality of life, with both public and private transport playing crucial roles in reducing air and noise pollution.

The fair aims to promote the environmental benefits and savings of electric vehicles, publicize subsidies for purchasing them, and emphasize the importance of CO2-free communities, contributing to the concept of an eco-island. It will also energize a growing sector transforming mobility in the 21st century.

This edition features 26 exhibitors, including electric vehicles and service companies. Manuel Sánchez, president of Aconauto, noted Gran Canaria’s strong electric vehicle network, which is powered by renewable energy and surpasses other islands in penetration rates.

Movelec will be open until 8 PM on Friday, from 10:30 AM to 8 PM on Saturday, and from 10:30 AM to 3 PM on Sunday. Admission is free, with tickets available online or at the venue.

The fair also showcases the evolution of the automotive sector, with Car Home Services presenting iconic models. Key presentations include discussions on low-emission zones and the future of electric transport in the Canary Islands.

A notable talk on safety will be led by Cristóbal Gómez, who will address the unique aspects of electric vehicles and safety measures. The event will also include a concert and various discussions about battery recycling and the future of companies like Tesla.

The complete Movelec program can be found at www.movelec-canarias.com. The event is promoted by the Gran Canaria Cabildo and organized by Infecar, with sponsorship from the Insular Energy Council and support from several local organizations.
