Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 21 September 2023-. Gran Canaria gathers from today until tomorrow the main agents of the national naval sector, with the celebration in Infecar of the second edition of the congress Navalia Meeting. The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, the president of Navalia, Jos\u00e9 Garc\u00eda Costas; Germ\u00e1n Su\u00e1rez, as president of the Cl\u00faster Mar\u00edtimo de Canarias, and Beatriz Calzada, president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, have inaugurated this morning the event, which has the participation of more than 300 attendees.<\/p>\n
Morales highlighted the value of holding this congress on the island, which is the most important at national level and the third at European level, as “it is an important step in the policies we are implementing to promote the blue economy and to work closely with the transport sector, ship repairs and the port sector in general”.<\/p>\n
The aim of this congress is to position the island and its ports as an area that actively promotes its sustainable development and is a driving force for tourism, business and commercial development and a multitude of initiatives within the framework of the island’s blue economy.<\/p>\n
For her part, the president of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, celebrated the fact that Navalia has decided to leave Vigo for this second edition and come to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, “which is undoubtedly a recognition of the position occupied by the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the sector of the blue economy.<\/p>\n

With all this, the programme began with a round table on the situation of the Oil & Repair market, in which representatives from Astican, Zamakona and Oryx took part, predicting an encouraging future, but being aware that it is necessary to diversify and do more than just Oil & Gas. In addition to the national level, this same debate has been transferred to a table with companies from Colombia, Peru and Vigo.<\/p>\n
The morning ended with a round table on the naval military industry, which emphasised the need to continue to seek international markets, supported by the Navy, but also looking further afield.<\/p>\n
The programme will continue with the afternoon session for which Navalia Meeting has brought together all the regional clusters in Spain to discuss the Spanish naval industry from each of their locations. This first day will conclude with a gala dinner hosted by the Port Authority of Las Palmas at the Poema del Mar Aquarium. There, awards will be presented to different trajectories within the naval sector.<\/p>\n
The second day will begin with the meeting of the Executive Committee of Navalia 2024, with authorities from the Canary Islands. The situation of offshore wind energy and future prospects will be the main topic of the morning, which will end with a farewell lunch for this second edition of Navalia Meeting.<\/p>\n
