{"id":14473,"date":"2026-04-18T13:53:57","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T13:53:57","guid":{"rendered":"\/en\/news\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T14:20:03","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T14:20:03","slug":"movelec-opens-its-doors-as-a-benchmark-for-100-electric-mobility-in-the-canary-islands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/en\/news\/movelec-opens-its-doors-as-a-benchmark-for-100-electric-mobility-in-the-canary-islands","title":{"rendered":"Movelec opens its doors as a benchmark for 100% electric mobility in the Canary Islands"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The Canary Islands Electric Vehicle Show takes place this weekend at the Ag\u00fcimes Exhibition Centre, bringing together companies, professionals and anyone interested in electric mobility<\/li>\n<li>In addition to talks and panel discussions, Movelec introduces this year, as a new feature, a series of practical efficient driving courses, combining informative sessions with hands-on driving experiences led by specialised instructors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Canary Islands Electric Vehicle Show, Movelec, opened today its ninth edition at the Ag\u00fcimes Exhibition Centre, \u201can event that continues to create opportunities for a sector that is increasingly attractive and in growing demand among the public,\u201d said the President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, during the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>With 51% of all electric vehicles in the Canary Islands, \u201cGran Canaria currently leads the adoption of electric vehicles in the region, as well as the development of charging infrastructure across the island,\u201d stated the President, who also announced that by the end of the year the island will have more than 100 charging points. \u201cWe are contributing to building a cleaner island, less dependent on external energy sources and fossil fuels, while creating new job opportunities in a sector that is becoming increasingly relevant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of these two days, companies, professionals and visitors interested in electric mobility will be able to explore the future of sustainable transport through around twenty companies showcasing fully electric vehicles and related services, alongside talks and panel discussions on key topics such as available incentives for purchasing electric vehicles, as well as activities designed to enhance the overall experience.<\/p>\n<p>Cars, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles \u2014 all fully electric \u2014 share space with workshops and specialised service providers, including renewable energy installers, charging solution companies, associations and institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Latest developments in the sector<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once again, Movelec dedicates a space to sharing the latest developments in the industry. Experts in electric mobility and efficient driving will deliver talks and take part in panel discussions, offering a comprehensive overview of the main pillars of electric mobility.<\/p>\n<p>The first day began with an efficient driving workshop led by electric vehicle specialist Samuel S\u00e1nchez and Carlos Larrod\u00e9, Director of the Canary Islands School of Efficient Driving (ECCOEF), who shared key insights on how to optimise the use of electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Later, electric mobility expert and AEDIVE representative Ferran Menescal analysed the evolution of charging infrastructure in Spain, noting that \u201calthough it is not progressing as fast as we would like, it is moving at a steady pace,\u201d thanks to the growing number of charging points and more efficient batteries. However, he pointed out that while \u201cthe current context is favourable, myths are being dispelled and prices are decreasing,\u201d reaching 5.5 million electrified vehicles by 2030 remains \u201can overly ambitious target,\u201d given that there are currently more than 850,000 on the road.<\/p>\n<p>The programme then focused on the island context with a talk by Ra\u00fal Garc\u00eda Brink, Councillor for Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge, who explained the progress of energy communities in Gran Canaria and their potential integration with electric mobility. \u201cThey can also be linked to charging points serving members of these communities,\u201d he noted. \u201cWe are currently developing photovoltaic plants, but in a second phase we could connect charging infrastructure to support community members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Alexis Lozano, Island Director for Energy and Climate, presented a detailed overview of the island\u2019s public charging infrastructure, which currently includes 60 charging points and is expected to reach 100 by the end of the year, with different charging speeds.
