Logistics is \u201ca strategic sector for the island of Gran Canaria and for the Canary Islands as a whole,\u201d stated\u00a0Minerva Alonso, Regional Councillor for Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Crafts. For this reason, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria will hold a\u00a0second edition next year, \u201cwith the essential cooperation of other institutions and the logistics and innovation business sector of Gran Canaria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The councillor recalled that this first edition is the result of cooperation between the private sector, the\u00a0Ag\u00fcimes Town Council\u00a0and the\u00a0Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through\u00a0Infecar \u2013 Feria de Gran Canaria. With FILCA, the island government opens a new chapter in its event programme at the south-east exhibition venue, which on this occasion hosted\u00a050 exhibiting companies, not only from Gran Canaria but also from\u00a0Tenerife\u00a0and several mainland Spanish cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Over the course of two days, attendees were able to discover first-hand a wide range of products and services on offer, while also establishing valuable business contacts. In parallel, a series of talks and roundtable discussions focused on logistics and transport, addressing the sector\u2019s main challenges and future outlook.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Yaiza Canosa, founder of the logistics startup\u00a0GOI\u00a0and current CEO of\u00a0Boudica Canosa, shared her experience in the logistics sector, particularly operating in the Canary Islands, which she described as \u201can additional challenge for companies.\u201d She compared it to a final degree project \u201cdue to its complexity, added costs and the need for thorough planning.\u201d According to Canosa, logistics in the islands often generates \u201cfear and uncertainty, especially because of customs procedures,\u201d which she described as \u201cmore of an art than a process.\u201d This lack of predictability, she noted, discourages companies considering shipments to the Canary Islands, highlighting the importance of working with local operators who understand the territory and its processes, thereby strengthening the local economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the roundtable on\u00a0digitalisation and logistics, speakers agreed that technological investment must be accompanied by strong change management.\u00a0Marco Antonio Su\u00e1rez, Head of Procurement and Supply Chain Development at\u00a0Spar Gran Canaria, pointed out that resistance to change\u2014both organisational and individual\u2014remains one of the main barriers. Similarly,\u00a0Airam Rodr\u00edguez, CEO of\u00a0H\u00edades Business Patterns, stressed the importance of involving users throughout the entire digital transformation process, a slower approach but one that is key to ensuring success.\u00a0David Falc\u00f3n, Head of Data &amp; Revenue at\u00a0Fred. Olsen Express, emphasised that implementation is impossible without full involvement, while\u00a0V\u00edctor Socas, Director of IT and Digital Transformation at\u00a0Grupo CopiCanarias, reminded attendees that digitalisation is a living process requiring continuous adjustments and active participation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">During the roundtable \u201cPorts and Sustainable Logistics in the Canary Islands\u201d, Beatriz Calzada, President of the Las Palmas Port Authority, highlighted the importance of a common European regulatory framework to avoid competitive disadvantages. She also stressed the need to adapt to future challenges by opening new routes, exploring new markets and implementing emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital twins.<br \/>\nLourdes Trujillo, Director of the Pormar Maritime-Port Chair, warned of the risks posed by the Fit for 55 emissions trading system and its impact on the competitiveness of Canary Islands ports. Other speakers, including Manuel Herrera, President of Ateia-Oltra Las Palmas, and Jos\u00e9 Mayor, President of Oneport Canarias, agreed on the need to strengthen public\u2013private collaboration, improve operational efficiency and move forward in digitalisation, automation and sustainability across port infrastructures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At the roundtable\u00a0\u201cCustoms and Taxation Applied to Canary Islands Logistics\u201d, participants highlighted regulatory complexity and territorial singularity as major challenges.\u00a0Mar\u00eda del Carmen Santana, President of the\u00a0Association of Customs Agents, stressed the importance of correctly classifying goods, while\u00a0Raquel Peligero, Director of the\u00a0Canary Islands Tax Agency, advocated for digitalisation to streamline procedures.\u00a0Laura Dapresa, Secretary General of\u00a0ASINCA, and\u00a0Gabriel Corujo, representative of the Ministry of Finance at the Free Trade Zone, agreed on the need to simplify legislation and encourage public\u2013private cooperation and coordination between administrations.\u00a0Gustavo Vidueira, from\u00a0ASOCELPA, pointed to the lack of regulatory awareness among SMEs and suggested redesigning the\u00a0REF (Canary Islands Economic and Fiscal Regime)\u00a0to better serve the common interest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The roundtable\u00a0\u201cNetwork of Logistics Platforms and Operational Nodes\u201d\u00a0addressed the shortcomings of logistics and industrial spaces in the Canary Islands and their role within the supply chain.\u00a0Cornelio Su\u00e1rez, President of\u00a0AENAGA, noted that industrial estates have supported intense activity without proportional improvements in infrastructure, calling for greater institutional attention to access, services and planning.\u00a0Mar\u00eda Lourdes P\u00e9rez, Vice President of\u00a0AEGORO, emphasised the need for a more integrated vision to include these areas in broader logistics strategies. The discussion also covered tensions between industrial, port and urban activity\u2014such as in\u00a0El Sebadal\u2014and highlighted the importance of viewing ports as part of a connected logistics network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Promoted and funded by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and organised by Infecar, FILCA is supported by the\u00a0Ag\u00fcimes Town Council. It is also a shared initiative involving strategic stakeholders working together to modernise the business fabric, including the\u00a0Association of Entrepreneurs of the Arinaga Industrial Zone (AENAGA), the\u00a0Arinaga Business Conservation Entity (ECOAGA)\u00a0and the\u00a0Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In addition, numerous organisations and companies have shown their support through sponsorship, including\u00a0Puertos de Las Palmas,\u00a0Fred.
