Half a hundred farmers and producers from 14 municipalities across the island are taking part in this event until tomorrow, Sunday<\/p>\n
The 34th edition of the Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair opened its doors today at the Ag\u00fcimes Exhibition Grounds to promote the primary sector which, as explained by the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, during the inauguration, \u201cis key for our territory: to protect the landscape, to generate employment, to eat fresher products, to reduce the ecological footprint and to fight wildfires.\u201d<\/p>\n
The President recalled that Km.0 products \u201cmeet all the conditions, and guaranteeing spaces like this\u2014where producers can offer their products directly, without intermediaries, and consumers can approach and buy them\u2014represents an important step in the strategy of valuing local products.\u201d<\/p>\n
For his part, the Mayor of the host municipality, \u00d3scar Hern\u00e1ndez, stated that Ag\u00fcimes aligns with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria\u2019s commitment to food sovereignty for the island, noting that \u201csupporting Km.0 Fairs and the agricultural and livestock sector is part of improving the landscape and strengthening the population\u2019s connection to the territory.\u201d<\/p>\n
Promoted and funded by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, organised by Infecar \u2013 Feria de Gran Canaria, and co-organised by the Ag\u00fcimes Town Council, this 34th edition brings together 60 stands over the weekend, 58 of which belong to farmers and producers from 14 municipalities across the island. They are joined by the Gran Canaria Me Gusta programme, the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, Turismo de Gran Canaria, and the Canary Institute of Agro-Food Quality (ICCA).<\/p>\n
The host municipality, Ag\u00fcimes, is the one contributing the highest number of exhibitors\u2014ten local producers of wine and cheese, specialists in roasted pork (pata), microvegetable growers, craft beer makers, and representatives of the Salinas de Bocabarranco.<\/p>\n
Ingenio and Santa Luc\u00eda are present with eight and six producers respectively, expanding the local offering with products such as spices, aloe vera drinks, bread, plants and flowers, honey and olives, as well as a broad selection of cheeses.<\/p>\n
The remaining eleven participating municipalities\u2014Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Moya, Santa Br\u00edgida, Valsequillo, San Bartolom\u00e9 de Tirajana, Arucas, San Mateo, Teror, Firgas, G\u00e1ldar and Telde\u2014also bring locally produced mushrooms, jams, cane juice, ice creams, juices and pastries, among many other products.<\/p>\n
Among the novelties of this edition is the incorporation of Coffee Funghi, a producer from G\u00e1ldar whose work is based on a circular economy model focused on revaluing spent coffee grounds collected from local businesses. This material becomes the substrate used to cultivate varieties such as oyster mushrooms, shiitake and lion\u2019s mane, which they sell fresh and as processed products, including an organic coffee produced in collaboration with Caf\u00e9 Ortega. The company also offers grow-your-own kits and educational workshops at its facilities to showcase the production process and promote local mycological culture.<\/p>\n
The Km.0 Gran Canaria Fair, open from 9:00 to 14:00 on both Saturday and Sunday, stands as an ideal meeting point to purchase high-quality products, support the local economy, and promote sustainability on the island.<\/p>\n
