This Friday marks the official opening of the 14th edition of FIMAR, the International Sea Fair, taking place from June 6 to 8 at Muelle Sanap\u00fa in the Port of Las Palmas, between the Poema del Mar aquarium and the Onda Atl\u00e1ntica footbridge. With the theme <em>\u201cSustainability of the Canary Coastline,\u201d<\/em> this new edition reaffirms Fimar as the leading regional forum for the blue economy and marine affairs in the Canary Islands. The fair will officially open its doors on Friday, June 6, at 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Fimar 2025 is promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, and is jointly organised by the City of the Sea department of the capital and Infecar, Gran Canaria Trade Fair Institution.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 exhibitors will take part in this year\u2019s edition, which will feature around 80 stands, a comprehensive programme of science outreach talks, public activities, a dedicated children\u2019s area and a gastronomic zone, consolidating the event as the key meeting point for the blue economy in the city, the island, and the archipelago. The Portuguese town of Ericeira is this year\u2019s guest city, and the programme includes boat trips, a street parade, and a live performance by Gran Canaria band Los Lola.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Educational programme and scientific outreach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the three days, visitors will have access to an extensive educational programme, open and free of charge. Topics will include the drift of Portuguese man o\u2019 war colonies, the physical-biological connection in ocean functioning, the journey of microplastics in Canary waters, and surprising links between native island crops and marine species. Sessions will also focus on public education around climate change and food safety measures related to ciguatoxin, a naturally occurring marine toxin.<\/p>\n<p>The fair will also highlight technological innovations, such as ocean exploration with autonomous robots, marine forecasting using artificial intelligence, and the production of sustainable fuels from microalgae. Experts from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and other institutions will present these developments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activities for families and the general public<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the professional and institutional side, Fimar will offer a wide programme of free public activities, including tours of Navy and Maritime Rescue vessels, nautical exhibitions, water-based activities, a growing children&#8217;s area with storytelling and workshops, and a food court featuring local cuisine. Visitors can also enjoy boat rides between Santa Catalina Pier and the Marina, and participate in the family-friendly atmosphere that connects the city to its maritime roots.<\/p>\n<p>A parallel programme will also take place at the Elder Museum of Science and Technology, where the planetarium will host sessions under the theme <em>\u201cNavigating by the Stars\u201d<\/em> on June 7 and 8.<\/p>\n<p>With free admission, Fimar 2025 will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Organisers and collaborating entities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fimar is promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, and is organised by the City of the Sea department and Infecar.<\/p>\n<p>Additional support comes from the Department of Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, Gesplan (RedPromar, Educaisla), and the Municipal Institute of Employment and Training (IMEF) of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.<\/p>\n<p>Complete information about the event, programme details, and participating companies is available at: <a title=\"Feria Internacional del Mar\" href=\"https:\/\/feriainternacionaldelmar.com\/\">feriainternacionaldelmar.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The International Sea Fair opens its 14th edition from June 6 to 8 at Muelle Sanap\u00fa The wait is over.
