{"id":12475,"date":"2025-04-02T14:13:34","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"\/en\/news\/"},"modified":"2025-04-02T14:25:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:25:57","slug":"artificial-intelligence-takes-the-spotlight-at-the-start-of-digion-canarias","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/en\/news\/artificial-intelligence-takes-the-spotlight-at-the-start-of-digion-canarias","title":{"rendered":"Artificial intelligence takes the spotlight at the start of DigiON Canarias"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>The Canary Islands Business Digitalization Fair opened today with large public attendance and 45 exhibiting companies<\/li>\n<li>Experts in artificial intelligence and digitalization agree: it\u2019s time to get on board with AI, but training is essential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>DigiON Canarias, the Canary Islands Business Digitalization Fair, opened its doors today to celebrate its third edition, focused on artificial intelligence and the latest trends in innovation and digital transformation.<\/p>\n<p>DigiON is a space \u201cfor meeting, explaining innovative projects, and exchanging experiences among companies that can also showcase their potential and proposals for innovation and the incorporation of artificial intelligence and digitalization into the business world,\u201d said the President of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, after touring the more than 40 stands of companies and institutions exhibiting at the fair.<\/p>\n<p>The president praised \u201cthe significant growth of local small and medium-sized enterprises\u201d joining this event \u201cto share their products and services with society,\u201d and expressed his belief that \u201cthe number of people interested in the knowledge these companies offer will continue to grow,\u201d exceeding the 2,000 attendees registered last year.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture programme began with Jon Hern\u00e1ndez, one of Spain\u2019s most popular artificial intelligence educators through his YouTube channel @La_Inteligencia_artificial. He reviewed the history and milestones of artificial intelligence and invited attendees to discover the \u201ccultural shift\u201d brought by this technology: \u201cArtificial intelligence is going to change the way we interact, the way we work, and it\u2019s going to change everything,\u201d he said. He encouraged listeners to ask themselves what AI can do for them, and to dive into learning more about a technology that, he insisted, is here to stay.<\/p>\n<p>Similar sentiments were shared by the experts participating in the roundtable discussion \u201cHopes and Realities: The Impact of AI on Business\u201d, one of the highlights of today\u2019s programme. Noem\u00ed Brito, partner in the legal department at KPMG Abogados, stated that since her company implemented AI, employees have worked 33% faster, productivity has increased by over 70%, \u201cfreeing up time for other tasks,\u201d and errors have decreased by over 60%.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn short, AI adds value to companies,\u201d said Brito, who nonetheless stressed the importance of training. On this point, Jon Hern\u00e1ndez noted that, given the pace of AI development, \u201cthere\u2019s no such thing as professional training unless it\u2019s continuous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to change the way we educate,\u201d added Sergio Gonz\u00e1lez, AI specialist at Microsoft, because right now \u201cstudents using AI acknowledge they are becoming better professionals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to David Mac\u00edas, CEO of AIOS and author of El m\u00e9todo IA, the development of AI is so fast \u201cit scares many people \u2013 we don\u2019t realise how quickly this is moving \u2013 and it complicates regulation.\u201d Regulation, he added, \u201cis being created as a reaction to what big tech companies do, and that\u2019s why in Europe we\u2019re falling far behind,\u201d agreed Jon Hern\u00e1ndez. Sergio Gonz\u00e1lez added that regulation \u201cis a necessary tool to define what can and cannot be done, offering a clear framework from the outset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hern\u00e1ndez reminded attendees that \u201cAI doesn\u2019t only affect companies, it also affects individuals and can help in many areas.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s not just a tool, it\u2019s a cultural shift that changes what we do and how we interact \u2014 it\u2019s not just about productivity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>During the roundtable, the experts also addressed ethical questions in the use of AI, particularly about privacy, intellectual property, image rights\u2026 but all called for its appropriate use to harness its potential and stand out fully.<\/p>\n<p>While many attendees listened to these AI and digitalization experts, others visited the Speakers\u2019 Corner to quickly hear technological proposals or the latest digitalization trends presented by various companies. Throughout the day, short 15-minute talks covered topics such as artificial intelligence, big data, SME digitalization, governance, and many other aspects of digital transformation.<\/p>\n<p>In the commercial exhibition area, 45 companies will continue to present their most innovative and disruptive technological solutions in sectors like automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and software development until tomorrow.
